After the release of several coveted singles, plenty of show appearances worldwide (including accompanying Illenium on tour) and his own tour announcement in 2019, Ekali is not quite ready to let us come up for air in 2020 (and we’re very okay with that). Today sees the release of his highly anticipated album, A World Away, right before he embarks on his tour starting February 6th.
Ekali has been teasing the “A World Away” album through a handful of singles; “Runaway” feat. Reo Cragun, “Back To You” feat. Kiiara (debuted at #1 on the iTunes Electronic chart), “Be Fine” (feat. Wafia) and finally Ekali & Illenium’s track “Hard To Say Goodbye” feat. Chloe Angelides, leaving fans exhilarated for more – and it’s safe to say he has exceeded all expectations. In true Ekali form, the album takes you through a journey of meticulously crafted electronic sounds (as well as stunning vocals by Elohim, Wafia, and more). Ekali will transport you straight into your feelings while simultaneously lifting you up. The album is a work of art: sorrowful, delicate, cinematic and straight up powerful. In Ekali’s own words, “The core of the album centers around the idea of a moment of warmth when all else is desolate. I’m trying to capture the emotion of something special but only what’s left when it’s fleeting and/or leaving. A warm moment in a cold place and subsequent cycle of healing.”
World-renowned as a double threat producer and DJ and known for early production credits on Drake’s If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, along with high-profile collaborations with Denzel Curry, Yuna, K. Flay, Medasin, ZHU, Falcons, each of which have combined for over 60 Million global streams to date, and counting. Originally hailing from Canada, Ekali’s Crystal Eyes EP was nominated for a prestigious Juno Award as Electronic Album of the Year, and his last release, “Be Fine” ft. Wafia, reached over a million global streams in its first month alone. His previous single “Back To You” (feat. Kiiara) came out in October, accruing over 150,000 streams in the first 24hrs… with numbers like these, the future is sure looking bright for Ekali.
