Metal gods Max and Iggor Cavalera, founders of Sepultura, blessed the crowd at the Granada Theater on Friday night with their iconic brand of bone-crushing riffs and razor-sharp metal over the course of a blistering 18-song, 80-minute set.
Opening acts Incite, fronted by Max’s son, Richie, and Exhumed primed the crowd for the storm on the horizon.

The crowd erupted as the demonic introduction of The Curse, off Cavalera Conspiracy’s latest EP, Bestial Devastation, started to play, and that set the stage for the duo playing the EP from start to finish. Cavalera then transitioned into the first eight songs off the recently re-recorded Morbid Visions (Sepultura’s 1986 debut album).

After a brief exit, they returned to the roar of a full house and finished with a five-song encore that included Inquisition Symphony and Escape to the Void off Sepultura’s second album, Schizophrenia.

Cavalera brought the energy and precision of Sepultura’s early days, which surely satisfied fans of the Brazilian metal stalwarts while making new fans in the crowd who weren’t alive when the Cavalera brothers first started making metal history.
