Pallbearer at Trees

The masters of doom metal took over the historic Trees in Deep Ellum on Thursday night. Pallbearer, the Little Rock band, released their fifth full length studio album this past May and was met with great reviews. “Mind Burns Alive” is a collection of songs that deal with mental unease and generally just being unwell. A dark subject that can be felt during their set. I found myself losing myself in the music with its melodic yet heavy sound sinking into my body.

The night wasn’t all doom and gloom though. With the tour nearing its end, the prank war between Pallbearer and tour mates Inter Arma. While the openers made their way through their intense set, the Pallbearer boys kept throwing items at them. The Arma boys did not forget this when it was time for Pallbearer to take the stage. Midway through the set, Inter Arma’s drummer, TJ Childers, walked onto the stage completely naked. Well, not completely naked. He still had on his shoes and socks. The guys could not stop laughing as they tried to finish their song.

Pallbearer have been consistent with releasing albums for the past 12 years and I can tell that they are nowhere close to being done. This being my first Pallbearer show, I can say that this will be a band I will continue to go see as long as they keep touring.
